Metropolitan College of New York

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) is a private, non-profit institution founded in 1964 by educational pioneer Audrey Cohen. Originally established as the Women’s Talent Corps, MCNY was built on an innovative experiential model designed to combine higher education with social action and community empowerment.

The college serves a diverse, adult-focused student body across undergraduate and graduate degree programs tailored for working professionals. Utilizing an accelerated, trimester-based calendar, MCNY allows students to complete career-aligned degrees while directly applying their classroom learning to their current workplaces or community initiatives.

MCNY’s primary campus is integrated into the vibrant urban landscape of Financial District in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Located near major transit hubs, cultural landmarks, and financial centers, the Manhattan campus provides students with direct exposure to the civic, commercial, and non-profit sectors of NYC.

In addition to its main Manhattan facility, the college operates a dedicated campus extension in the Hub neighborhood of the South Bronx. Both locations feature modern classrooms, student lounges, and collaborative spaces tailored to commuter and working students.

Metropolitan College of New York is defined by its signature Purpose-Centered Education framework, which integrates academic study with a mandatory field-based “Constructed Action” project each semester. Academic programs are organized through the Audrey Cohen School for Human Services and Education and the School for Business.

MCNY offers specialized degree tracks in human services, healthcare management, emergency management, business administration, and public affairs. The curriculum emphasizes social justice, practical leadership, and hands-on problem solving, equipping graduates to address urban challenges and community needs.

MCNY provides tailored academic and student support services geared toward non-traditional, returning, and working adult learners. The Learning Enrichment Center offers one-on-one academic coaching, writing support, math tutoring, and study skill workshops to aid student retention and achievement.

Personal well-being and career mobility are supported through dedicated counseling services, accessibility resources, and the Office of Career Services. Students also benefit from personalized financial aid advising, flexible scheduling options (including evening, weekend, and online classes), and veteran student support services.
